Spray resins and machinery

Coloured back painted glass is proving very popular worldwide. The use of back painted glass is now a feature in many homes and commercial buildings as it creates extra light and is easy to clean and maintain. Spray resins to create coloured back painted glass are inexpensive to use and come with the usual Creative Resins guarantees.

Spray resin was introduced in 2010 and can be used on Kitchen and Bathroom splash backs, furniture, wet rooms, security glass, spandrel glass, architectural glass, glass work tops and glass partitions as well as signage.

The spray resins can be applied to any monolithic glass surface and can also be used with laminated glass. As Creative Resins supply all of the ingredients with no additional additives needed - the warranty lies with us. The spray range is water and moisture resistant, resistant to high temperatures, UV stable and carries no wastage.

Spray resins come as a 3 part mix – base & hardener mixed with a range of 23 colour pigments to create as endless array of finishes and colours. The base colours can be used to match most RAL, Pantone, BS, and our own colour swatch box creating thousands of swatches of colours for your customer to choose from.

The Spray resins can be supplied either as a pre mix enabling smaller users to simply add the two components together and start spraying or for more frequent users we recommend using the spray station to ensure the colour pigments remain consistently mixed and ensuring smoother, perfect panels each time.

Machinery

We recommend using the spray base starter if producing a lot of panels - this base station ensures all pigments are evenly mixed to create a uniform colour every time.

The spray station is supplied as a starter kit for new users which has everything you will require to start spraying including the full range of colours, base resins, precision scales, swatch box, spray software and measuring beakers.

Our spray software houses the recipes for the various finishes – RAL, Pantone, BS, Swatch Box, transparent and special paint finishes. At the touch of a button, a recipe of the reference number entered will appear on the screen highlighting the various colours needed to produce the final colour. Each recipe consists of 800g of base resin and 200g colour pigment to make up a litre of colour.

From the formulation software all you need to do is weigh out the correct amounts of each pigment to make the desired colour and then add our unique base resins. You are now ready to spray. One litre will cover approximately 4-5 square metres of glass depending on the colour being sprayed. We always recommend using a Devilbiss spray gun which we sell via our online shop - these we have found are the best spray guns not only with the regular spray resins but especially when spraying our special effects,

Rainbow and Metallic Sparkles

Creative Resins have a vast range of sparkles in stock which offer a unique finish to any panel. The Rainbow sparkle gives an pearlescent look to the glass which changes colour as you walk past it. This can be applied thick or thin to give different effects. Other sparkles include silver, gold, copper to name a few.

Granite

The Granite effects are immensely popular worldwide as Granite is not only very expensive but is also porous. By using our Granite sprays – toughened/tempered/laminated glass can be transformed into a Granite effect worktop or splash back at a fraction of the price of genuine Granite and any spillages can simply be wiped off.

Crackle

Crackle The crackle effect can be created in any colour on the glass. It is a two part mix and leaves a cracked effect when sprayed from behind the glass. Different degrees of cracking can be achieved by spraying more....or less crackle on the glass.

Cob Web/Marble effect spray

The cob web effect is a clear additive which can have any spray colour added to it and literally sprays onto the glass like a cobweb – this is then backed with any colour you prefer to give an amazing finish to the glass. No two panels are ever the same when using the cobweb finish.

Lumi Spray

Launched during 2013 –Lumi spray is a glow in the dark spray resin. Ideal for emergency signs, the Lumi spray is also proving popular in splashbacks for kitchens and bathrooms as it glows at night making movement easier

Acid Etch Effect Spray - NEW

Introduced to allow customers to reduce their costs when offering acid etched glass - our new acid etch spray effect could not be easier to produce. Using your regular spray gun, the acid etch effect is simply sprayed onto glass to simulate acid etch glass. Stopping the need to buy expensive acid etch glass, you can now offer your customers the same effect on any size glass, any thickness, float or tempered/toughened.

instructions

CRYSTAL SPARKLE

The Crystal sparkle comes in powder form. It has to be measured to be 2.5% of the weight of the Spray A & Spray B.

As the sparkle is a powder it should be mixed in stages to ensure it is mixed thoroughly, therefore you should have your Spray A and B mixed before adding small amounts of the powder to it.

To add the powder:

Measure out the required amount of powder in a separate beaker and slowly add your spray mixture a small amount at a time ensuring it is mixed thoroughly. At first it will resemble a paste before you gradually add more spray. As it mixes very quickly the whole process will not take long. Once mixed this should NOT be filtered.

The Crystal Sparkle does not need a colour pigment added to it

The Crystal sparkle can be rather thick as a powder so can group together in the bottom of the spray gun – to resolve this problem, we suggest placing a small marble in the bottom of the gun to agitate the pearl when it sinks to the bottom.

The preferred technique for spraying crystal sparkle is to first spray a 'gripper' coat. This should be done when the glass is in the upright position in the normal way – there is no need for the glass to lay flat. The 'gripper' coat ensures that the first coat is only a light dusting which should then be left for 5 minutes. After we recommend a further 2 even coats evenly applied. This can be backed up with a colour of your choice.

Using Granite

The Granite has to be added into the mixed spray A+B at 10%.

Then back it up with another colour as normal. Black Normally.

It does cover a huge amount, 1 litre of spray A+B with Granite covers approximately 10 square metres as it only needs a small amount to be sprayed on before it is backed up.

Do NOT Filter the granite.

When you add the 10% of granite to the clear resin it will go into one big lump at the bottom. Depending upon how big you want the splatters, it will depend on how much you break up the pigment at the bottom. Obviously break it up more for smaller particles etc. Spray it onto the glass until you have as much of the pigment on there as you want, good coverage is usually just 2-3 passes of the gun. Then spray on your opposing colour to back it up.

Lumi instructions (glow in the dark spray)

Clean glass thoroughly with a glass cleaner or solvent.

Clean glass thoroughly with a glass cleaner or solvent.

Mix Spray A and B in the usual ratio and spray the glass with a light coating.

Leave to dry for around 10 minutes

Mix the Lumi spray with 20% adhesion as supplied. Then spray the Lumi colour over the top. 200g per metre square coverage for the highest effect.

Leave to dry for 2 hrs at normal temperature for a perfect adhesion.

Then use A and B with 20% 901 white as a backing Leave to dry for +/- for 8 hrs in normal room temperature.

The Lumi Spray must be backed with white spray colour to absorb the light.

Cobweb Effect

Clean the glass thoroughly with glass cleaner/solvent Add colours if required to the cobweb effect. Add the colour to the web resin in a ratio of 10% using any of the spray resin colour pigment.

Mix perfectly then apply with a spray gun.

You can get different effects by standing nearer or away from the glass (for a regular effect we recommend about a metre away from the glass) or by adjusting the fan on your spray gun.

Spray the web effect from top to bottom on the glass and leave (do not spray across the glass as the effect can be overwhelming).

Leave for 20 minutes and then back with black (A + B + 20%) (or any colour you prefer)

Leave to dry again for 8 hours.

Rainbow Sparkle

The Rainbow Sparkle comes in powder form. It has to be measured to be 5% of the weight of the Spray A & Spray B.

As the sparkle is a powder it should be mixed in stages to ensure it is mixed thoroughly, therefore you should have your Spray A and B mixed before adding small amounts of the sparkle to it.

To add the powder:

At first it will resemble a paste before you gradually add more spray. As it mixes very quickly the whole process will not take long. Once mixed this should NOT be filtered.

FAQ's

Can I place the sprayed panels outside?

Yes the sprayed panels can be placed outside as they are fully tried and tested against the sun's UV rays and will not colour fade

What Silicone can I use to adhere the sprayed glass to a surface.

Only a neutral silicone can be used - please contact Creative Resins direct to confirm the recommended silicone.

Can I laminate the sprayed panels?

Yes the sprayed panels can be laminated 72 hours after they have been sprayed.

Does the resin have a shelf life

Yes the shelf life is one year – stored in a cool area out of direct sunlight.

How long after spraying can I fit the sprayed panel into a building/onto a wall?

We recommend leaving the panel to dry for 72 hours before fixing to a wall. If using silicone to fix the panel we only recommend a neutral silicone to be used.

The colour I need to match does not appear on the software?

The software contains RAL, Pantone, BS, and our own swatch box colour recipes however if you require a special colour to match a paint or a metallic then simply email or call us and we will get the recipe for you.

I only have one panel to spray every so often?

Not a problem, we also supply a premix spray resin for one off panels which can be mixed to a special colour however this is not cost effective when producing larger numbers of sprayed panels.

Do I need to place the panel in a kiln to heat it once it has been sprayed?

No – there are no specialist drying techniques needed – all resins are naturally curing.

Do I need to back a sprayed panel with another colour?

We do recommend backing panels especially lighter colours with a black or white colour.

What spray booth do you recommend?

We recommend a dry back spray booth. Download Spec Sheet

What spray gun should I use?

We recommend the Devilbiss GTI pro range spray guns as we have found these to be the best when spraying the different effects especially the mirror sprays. These are available to purchase on our online shop.
